Mergansers and Loons

So there’s a good news / bad news component to this post.  We’re going to start with the bad news first and get this out of the way…

The following are two pictures of one of the growing mergansers that as you can see has gotten a fishhook and leader wedged in its neck.  How much it’s affecting the bird is very hard to tell.  We debated about sending the pictures out or not but decided to because it’s a real life situation and sometimes life isn’t all roses but they also serve as a very good reminder to please be as responsible as you can with all of your fishing related items.  We will obviously continue to monitor this situation.

The good news portion is that Precious Kittie seems to be thriving and is now 11 weeks old. She’s looking quite beautiful in her shining new feathers!
