Presentation on Cyanobacteria

SPECIAL PRESENTATION

Public Talk
“Protecting Pleasant Lake:
Lessons from Tucker Pond Cyanobacteria Blooms”
by Doug Darling
Cyanobacteria Committee
Tucker Pond Improvement Association

Doug also served as chair of the former New Hampshire
DES Cyanobacteria Plan Advisory Committee

A view from a rocky shoreline of a lake with a large patch of yellow pollen and turquoise water near the shore, with several boats anchored in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Pleasant Lake has experienced Cyanobacteria blooms for the past four years (photo above shows 2024 Cyanobacteria bloom in Elkins). This is a serious warning signal of a tipping point whereby these harmful blooms could increase in frequency, resulting in the lake being closed to swimming, boating, and other recreation during the blooms. What can we learn from a nearby lake association that has also experienced these blooms and is actively working to improve water quality in their lake? Anyone who cares about water quality in Pleasant Lake is welcome!

Free – RSVP by email to plpa@plpa.net
space is limited.

The 40-minute talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
Sunday, August 31st, 1:00 pm.
