All Things Pleasant on the Lake

“Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile.”   William Cullen Bryant

Autumn brought us a rainy day this week. We have not had a rainy day in some time. We suddenly had to pause and do rainy-day type of things. As the clouds lifted, rainbows appeared and by the time the sun came out we realized that Autumn had been busily weaving more of her stunning tapestry across the hills. Too, ferns are browning up and winterberry is loaded with fruit. Our birdfeeders have been so quiet lately. Perhaps all our feathered friends are enjoying the feast to be found all about and have no need of our offered treats. Every once in a while someone stops by for a drink of fresh water from the birdbaths. We yearn for the cheerful presence of wings outside our windows. Loon chicks Ping and Pong practice their flying every windy day while Mother and Father Loon continue to transform into their gray/white winter coats. Autumn smiles at all that she sees, “the year’s last, loveliest smile”.
Sending all the best, Kittie
