This week’s snowstorm made no secret of its presence and we found ourselves quickly buried in more than a foot of lovely white down. Adirondacks that we were hoping to sit in just days ago are once again buried. Feeders have been busy, busy with everyone happily gathered round the laden tables. We caught a glimpse of the female Purple Finch this week, so that was encouraging! And there was a surprise one evening when we opened the lid to fire up the grill! A mound of assorted fluff and a tiny movement in the corner turned out to be Mrs. Field Mouse and her house. Two babies scurried out within seconds, one hiding, the other nestling close to mother. Needless to say, we carefully closed the lid and cooked dinner in the kitchen. Magic all about, hidden in the most unlikely places!
