All Things Pleasant on the Lake
“Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, Sunshine on my eyes can make me cry…” John Denver
We have needed the warming sunshine this week, as cold, blustery North Wind has taken us over. Nevertheless, the lake is looking a little gray in spots and where brooks enter there is open water. Common Mergansers are appearing, a sure sign of spring! The males are often mistaken for loons this time of year. You can see the difference up close, but at a distance they can look very similar. Mallards are pairing up as well, in fact Mr. Mallard is looking quite dashing! The pussy willows continue to sprout, and the Mourning Doves are making eyes at each other. Chipmunks scurry about and we are thrilled to hear the lovely call of Song Sparrow, singing up the sun. Goldfinch boys look sunnier every day and in sections of warmth the precious snowdrops are pushing through. We are most thankful for the warm April sun, which fills us with happiness, sometimes to the point of tears.
Sending all the best, Kittie
