All Things Pleasant on the Lake
“Set wide the window. Let me drink the day!” Edith Wharton
We would all love to set wide our windows, but winter has very much held us in her grip this week, with snow falling almost every day. Last season, the ice went out on Pleasant Lake on April 16th, which is a normal ice out time for this lake. This season, we are still frozen hard. Our best hope seems to be a few promising cracks in the ice. Nevertheless, let us drink the day! Let us think about what will happen…soon…we hope. The lake will begin to “gray up” and will grow darker and darker as the ice shield melts. Quite suddenly and often very quietly, she will be free, waves moving gently, feeling their way from solid back to liquid. Father Loon will arrive, eager to claim his lake, and Mother Loon will soon follow. Heron will skim the water on his way to Turtle Cove and Eagle will soar in search of fresh fish. This beautiful lake will once again wrap us in her magical spell and we will most happily drink from her enchanting fountain.
Sending all the best, Kittie
