Loon Update

2023, No. 9 — September 8

We are working on a newsletter about some of the young critters that are being raised in our backyard this summer. Meanwhile, here is a brief update on the loons.

Loon Family

Paisley is just about the same size as her mother and still being cared for by both parents.

Fully capable of diving and catching food, she still pesters her parents for more. As an example, the next three photos show mom bringing a small fish, Paisley consuming it, and 2 seconds later poking at mom’s bill begging for more.

While the sequence above was going on, dad was swimming across the Lake through boat traffic to bring this goodie.

With wings like these, she is going to start flying soon!

Our loons are feeding further from shore these days. Please keep a sharp eye out for them when boating.
