Two Eggs!

2025, No. 02 — May 22nd

Two Eggs!

Mama Loon delivered a second egg on May 17! In 19 years of monitoring the nest, this is the first opportunity Jen has had to photograph an egg being laid.

Above, the second egg being laid and below she is moving it next to the first one.

Papa had been circling the nest checking out what was going on.

With the cool weather, rain, and wind so far, there have been fewer bothersome Blackflies and no hot spells which can hamper egg development.

Spring on the Lake

The rain and wind has limited our time on the Lake for photography. However,  the spring colors have been amazing. Here are a few views from the Cove that you don’t get to see unless you are on a paddle board or in a kayak or canoe

Blueberry Eagle

There is a dying Pine on Blueberry Island that is a favorite perch for raptors, including Bald Eagles. This one looked like it was having a bad feather day after a heavy rain the night before.

It was engaged in some serious feather grooming. Imagine rearranging and cleaning a body covered with feathers with just a pair of tweezers in your mouth!

Much better.  Still looks dirty, but that’s because it is a youngster. It probably is around 3 1/2 years old and half-way to maturity.

With more rain and wind on the way, it may be a while before we can get you more pictures of Lake activity. Meanwhile, enjoy the spring foliage and wild flowers around the watershed.

Bye for now…  Jen and Jon
