All Things Pleasant on the Lake
“Each day, each season, each cycle offers something of beauty. Let us notice and give thanks.” Diane Mariechild
Snow has fallen! Looking up into the swirl of flakes that gather on our eyelashes and kiss our cheeks, our hearts are full of thanks for this simple, magical blessing…falling snow. With the coming of snow more feathered friends are frequenting the feeders and we give thanks for their presence. Chipmunk is still awake, filling his cheeks before scurrying back to his warm burrow. Around the lake ice is beginning to form in sheltered coves. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard hop aboard, enjoying a cool stroll. Mother Loon fishes nearby, happily catching hornpout for her breakfast. How she loves to linger on the lake, while most loons have left for their ocean homes. It appears that the rest of the family, Father Loon and loon chicks Ping and Pong, have all taken flight. Soon Mother will leave as well, but for now she is thankful for one more hornpout! Geese, ducks and mergansers move about, enjoying the quiet waters and plentiful food. As we approach this most thankful time, we count the beauty of the natural world around us as one of our greatest blessings.
Sending all the best, Kittie
