All Things Pleasant on the Lake

Following the light of the sun, we left the Old World.”   Christopher Columbus

Snow banks are piled high around the lake. The last snowstorm covered most of the lake, but bottomless black ice shows itself in some windswept areas. There is nothing quite like venturing out on the frozen lake and “walking on water”! The Scotties race about, stopping to roll in windswept snow waves, then charging on in gay, joyous abandon. We feel that abandon as well, and the farther we get from shore, the more we feel that we are entering an exciting New World. One must leave the shore in order to understand. Back onshore, one finds fox tracks all about, and the night camera catches Gray Fox passing through a stand of giant hemlocks. Early in the morning a flash of scarlet makes us aware that Father Cardinal has arrived for breakfast. When viewed from above, he wears a grayish cloak which quiets his presence. Mother Cardinal is more subdued, but delights in a liberal application of coral lipstick. Red Squirrel continues to amuse us with his antics, whether it is munching on carefully shelled peanuts or making off with as many grapes as he can handle! If you feel you haven’t left the shore in a while, January is a perfect time for setting a new course, and following your sun.
Sending all the best, Kittie
