Get the Lead Out

Get the Lead Out! Lead is 100% fatal to Loons and other Water Birds!

Pleasant Lake reminds all anglers that a new law increasing protection for loons from lead fishing tackle went into effect in 2016. This current law bans the SALE and the freshwater USE of lead sinkers and jigs weighing one ounce or less. What’s in your tackle box and on your fishing line? Please dispose of the old lead tackle properly. PLPA encourages all anglers to obey the law and stop using lead tackle.

Get The Lead Out!

PLPA encourages all anglers to obey the law and fish lead free!

The smallest piece of lead will kill a loon. When a sinker or jig is lost in the lake loons may pick it up as they forage for pebbles to aid in digestion, or when feeding on a fish that is attached to lead tackle. That loon will die of lead poisoning in a matter of weeks. The NH Fish and Game Department and The Loon Preservation Committee urge anglers to obey the law and stop using lead tackle.

What’s In Your Tackle Box?

What’s in your tackle box, or in the tackle box of someone you know or who might come to visit? Please dispose of all the old lead tackle properly. Please use only lead free fishing tackle. Excellent websites with more information can be found at www.fishleadfree.orgwww.wildnh.com, and www.loon.org.

Thank you for helping to keep the beautiful call of the loon echoing over Pleasant Lake and all New Hampshire’s waters!
